EDUCATE. ENRICH. EMPOWER.
The Barn at Rock Fence is dedicated to educating, enriching, and empowering military veterans and their families through engagement with nature and hands-on learning about conservation. Our goal is to help restore the kinships affected during times of absence while serving.
In 2018 the Rock Fence property was placed under a conservation easement, thereby protecting its land, wildlife, and natural resources. The Barn Group Land Trust partnered with the owner to ensure that the site's natural treasures are protected forever. The name "Rock Fence" originated from a historic dam on-site that was constructed of stones stacked 12 feet tall on a granite shoal across an unnamed stream. In 1984 the site became a private hunting preserve and a 20,000 square foot lodge was built with re-purposed railroad cars. Soon the town was called Rock Fence after the property. The local community of Five Points used the lodge and property for events like high school proms and graduations. Locals remember the property still for its uniqueness and quality wildlife. The 45O+ acre property consists of the original lodge, shooting range, 14 wildlife plots, a trap and skeet range, dog kennels, quail hatcheries, a fishing pond, and numerous trails through hardwood forests.
